Job Title: Assistant Consultant, Traffic Engineer

Location: 300 Wyandotte Street, Suite 200, Kansas City, MO 64105

Duties: Assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the physical work site, surveys, blueprints, GIS data, maps, technical data, and other matrices for project development, design, and construction. Assist with performing basic professional traffic engineering work relating to conducting investigations and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, roadways, intersections, signage, signals, pavement markings, and transportation corridors to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, and construction or operating permits. Provide entry-level technical assistance on various design requirements, operating strategies to account for the safety and functionality of end-users, and transportation vehicles/systems. Assist with verifying the characteristics of a site and providing basic technical assistance on traffic engineering studies, capacity analyses, traffic complaint investigation, traffic plan review, signal system design, monitoring and control, and operations analysis to ensure roadways are designed in a safe and efficient way and the driver is provided with all of the necessary information and safety metrics to help ensure that their driving experience is safe and efficient. Assist with conducting traffic counts for roadways and intersections to determine the volume of traffic, where the traffic is going to and from, and the type of traffic on the roadway. Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems and field/work site notebook/logs. Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures which include but are not limited to, location data, statistical documentation, engineering studies and surveys, and construction. Complete training on assigned tasks.

Requirements: Bachelor's degree (or foreign equivalent) in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or a related field required. One (1) year experience as a Transportation Engineer, Civil Engineer, or a related position. Internship experience accepted. Experience must include: compile comprehensive reports for Complete Street projects to encompass survey data and geotechnical information to design roadways through the analysis of corridor traffic data and existing roadway crash statistics using R, analyze physical roadway survey data, visualize plot crash data, and map with ArcGIS ArcMap; prepare preliminary design proposals using GeoPak (MS-SS10), Open Roads Designer (ORD), Cogo, and Subsurface Utility Design and Analysis tools to create 3D corridor models and cross sections of roadway infrastructure to improve accessibility, safety, and functionality; and utilize AutoCAD for Light rail transit (LRT) project design and oversee CAD sheet production with principal engineers to address design comments and troubleshoot sheet production processes for project submissions.
