Cypress Employment Services has a client in Bessemer, AL looking for a Yard Jockey.
Job Description:
The yard jockey are combined positions and cross-trained in areas in the yard to provide the
most efficient teamwork to work the train. The daily responsibilities will be assigned by the site supervisor and
will entail a step progress in learning yard duties.
Groundman Duties
- Perform ground duties; requiring to climb on and off railcars and locking down boxes
- In coordination with Crane Operator by providing safety signals help load and unload the train
Capacity Duties
- Perform pre and post trip inspections on equipment and chassis, provide necessary reports on damaged equipment
- Move containers and chassis in the yard by utilizing a capacity
- Pick up and keep clean the inside of the equipment, was the outside of the Capacity daily
Gate Inspector Duties
- Check in & out Tractor Trailers at the gate, confirm paperwork & Rail billing is complete and accurate
- Physical inspection of the chassis and container, inspection of seal and verification to paperwork
- Enter interchanges into the system at the time of interchange (real time)
- Provide truckers with parking assignments and update logs/systems as needed
Crane Operations / Taylor Duties
- Perform pre and post trip inspections on equipment
- Load and unload railcars by utilizing an overhead crane or Side Picks
- Pick up and keep clean the inside of the equipment
Container Yard (CY Yard) Duties
- Perform pre and post trip inspections on equipment
- Maintain inventory of all boxes and chassis in the CY Yard
- Stack containers by utilizing a side loader / perform lift off and lift ons as needed
- Locate and segregate paper grade containers and CARU containers
- Outgate and ingate containers and set ups
- Entry of moves in Depot System Software
- Wash off equipment, including gas tanks for equipment daily.
All duties General Essential Functions
- Operate all equipment in a safe manner and in accordance to company policies
- Cross trained in all yard functions including gate inspector, CY yard, all equipment operations, perform general labor and maintenance
- Practice good hygiene, wear company uniforms and keep your equipment and breakroom clean in accordance to company policies and safety protocols
- Responsible for creating and maintaining process manuals for responsibilities in coordination with the site supervisor and provide at least annual updates
- Yard Duties as needed such as maintenance, upkeep and cleaning.
Requirements:
- Must have high school diploma or equivalent
- Must have at least 1 year Yard Jockey or CDL experience
- Must be able to work overtime and weekends when needed
- Must be able to perform job functions wearing assigned PPE
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check
Schedule: 1st shift Pay: $21 -$23 DOE
