Job Duties:
• This position requires direct patient care as part of dental student supervision.
• The supervising faculty is responsible for overseeing the student throughout the whole process of periodontal dental care. That includes initial patient assessment and diagnostic tests including assessment of gums, teeth, and supporting structures, measurement of gums and teeth, and diagnosis of type and severity of periodontal disease; non-surgical therapy such as scaling and root planning to remove plaque, tartar, and bacterial toxins from the tooth surfaces and root surfaces below the gumline; surgical therapy including procedures such as flap surgery, bone grafting, guided tissue regeneration, or soft tissue grafting; adjunctive therapies including use of antimicrobial agents, locally administered antibiotics, or host modulation therapy to enhance the effectiveness of periodontal treatment; and ongoing periodontal maintenance including regular professional cleanings and monitoring of periodontal status.
• Teach clinical periodontal treatment to predoctoral students.
• Teach in pre-clinical laboratories that prepare the predoctoral dental students for treating patients.
• Present lectures and group seminars to predoctoral dental students on periodontal topics.
• Assist the postgraduate periodontal specialty Director with the Introduction course for newly arrived postgraduate specialty students in order to facilitate their entry into the postgraduate program.
• Contribute to clinical teaching postgraduate periodontal specialty residents.
• Moderate seminars for postgraduate periodontal specialty students on clinical topics.
• Participate in research related to periodontal topics with postgraduate periodontal specialty students.

Requirements:
• DDS/DMD degree, dental license or eligibility for dental licensure in Massachusetts.
• Must have Certificate in Advanced Studies in Periodontology.
