Purchasing Director plumbing supplier

Our client is a leading distributor of plumbing supply products. They are seeking an experienced Purchasing Director. They are a successful, well established leader in the plumbing supply industry. This position has one direct report.
100% in office, no hybrid/remote available.

Essential Functions:


  • Establish stock levels for seasonal and non-seasonal items for SKUs used in the assigned categories.

  • Establish sourcing strategies that support the needs of the business for the assigned categories.

  • Utilize ERP system to determine procurement needs; indirect vs. direct point shipping; product line consolidation.

  • Improve and manage Inventory Turnover Rate for the assigned categories to meet company objectives.

  • Negotiate purchasing contracts and agreements with existing and potential vendors to obtain best cost, delivery and payment terms.

  • Monitor progress toward supplier incentive programs to optimize purchases and maximize rebate dollars.

  • Review vendor sourcing on a regular, ongoing basis, with the goal of securing more reliable, more cost-effective vendors

  • Manage buyers working in the assigned categories.

  • Lead successful meetings between suppliers, procurement and divisional stake holders.

  • Ensure superior customer service to internal customers.

  • Communicate effectively and consistently both internally and externally.



Desired Competencies


  • 5+ years purchasing experience working in a wholesale distribution environment with a centralized distribution center and multiple branches.

  • Experience with purchasing 10,000+ SKUs with a high and low volume mix.

  • Minimum five years of experience leading a team of purchasing professionals.

  • Inventory management experience.

  • Strong data and analytical skills abilities.

  • Minimum intermediate level skills with MS Excel. Advanced skill preferred.

  • Customer/Client focus.

  • Ability to communicate with all levels within the company.



Education Bachelors Degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
