Windows System Administrator (Remote)

We have an immediate need for a contract Windows System Administrator to join a public research university in Southern California.

Location: Remote working Pacific hours

This job expects to pay about $60 – 70 per hour plus benefits.

What You Will Do: 

• Applies skills as an experienced Windows & Microsoft Azure systems administrator to support operations of the Windows Services Group (WSG) and to work on projects involving various Microsoft technologies, security remediations, network design, and integration.
• Possesses a full understanding of industry best practices and campus, medical center or Office of the President policies and procedures to resolve a wide range of issues that are moderately complex in scope.
• Selects methods and techniques to obtain solutions.
• Evaluates new technologies including performing simple to moderate cost / benefit analyses and server lifecycle management.
• Manages projects that involve large systems optimization and fine-tuning, risk analysis and remediation, and process improvement.

• General knowledge of other areas of IT. Thorough understanding of and experience with systems related issues and actions that can be taken to improve or correct performance
• Demonstrated skills associated with adapting equipment and technology to serve user needs. Demonstrated comprehensive understanding of how systems management actions affect other systems, system users and dependent/related functions
• Demonstrated experience with writing and editing complex PowerShell scripts used to perform system maintenance and administration
• Advance knowledge of computer security best practices and policies including demonstrated experience securing Microsoft server based software
• Experience administering Microsoft Server Operating Systems
• Experience administering Microsoft Active Directory & Entra ID
• Experience administering Microsoft 365
• Experience with industry security controls and principles (ie Nist 161-800) and the ability to apply them in a Windows Server/Active Directory/MS 365 environment
• Experience with Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) & Operations Manager (SCOM) in an enterprise environment
