Manager Systems Engineer (A123 Systems; Novi, Michigan): The Manager Systems Engineer serves as the customer interface for the system design, coordinates the tasks of the supporting Systems Engineers, and performs the tasks of a Systems Engineer. The systems design tasks include analyzing customer or core product requirements and developing system design solutions to be further implemented by Hardware, Software, and Mechanical engineers. Specifically, the Manager Systems Engineer will perform the following duties: Develop BMS System Specifications according to agreed-upon customer requirements; create Electrical Interface and Control Documents; review and approve system test cases to ensure system design coverage; analyze internal test failures to determine root cause and mitigation action; support customer system integration efforts through appropriate means such as conference calls, data log analysis, and travel to customer sites; support activities of electrical hardware and software teams to resolve BMS issues; follow the A123 development process and tool chain implementation to support the development quality goals; perform root cause analysis of customer and internal software bugs and develop mitigation actions; support BMS and battery pack validation on BMS and Pack HIL test benches; develop and maintain requirements using the IBM DOORS and Doors Next Generation environment; communicate BMS design specifications to Software and test cases to Validation Teams using tools such as JIRA and IBM Rational Team Concert (RTC); report project status using tools such as JIRA and RTC and provide regular status updates to Project Lead; contribute to process improvement activities; support the development and validation activities for next generation Li-Ion battery features such as Safety, SOC, SOH, SOP algorithms, and cell balancing algorithm; collaborate with cell team for cell level testing and algorithm development activities; mentor the team and provide technical solutions; and generate and track KPls that measure project health and status. Some local and international travel required up to 10% of the time. Telecommuting permitted.

Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering or related field, or the equivalent of a Bachelor’s degree through any combination of education, experience, or training, plus 2 years of experience in an automotive design role.

Must have: 2 years of experience converting customer requirements to system design specifications; 2 years of industry experience with analysis of production scale Battery Management software and hardware and low voltage and high voltage batteries; 2 years of experience with analysis of production scale Battery Management Systems - software or hardware; 2 years of experience with CAN or LIN Networking; good understanding of electric or hybrid electric powertrain systems, electric/hybrid power train systems, Li-ion battery, battery management system, including features such as SOC (State of Charge)/SOH (State of Health)/Cell Balancing and Safety algorithms; strong ability to understand BMS hardware schematics and experience in integrating component ECU into vehicle electronic systems; working knowledge of CAE tools such as Vector CANAlyzer, Canape, and CAPL scripts; expertise in requirements management tools such as IBM DOORS and Doors Next Generation and issue tracking tools such as JIRA and IBM Rational Team Concert; expertise in ECU bench testing and Hardware-in-the-Loop and root cause analysis using test benches and programming skills using MATLAB and Simulink; knowledge of embedded C and troubleshooting embedded software and of FMEA (Failure Mode Effects and Analysis) of electronic systems; demonstrate written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, including interfacing with customers, and strong interpersonal skills.
