Work under licensed structural engineer to perform analysis and design for the rehabilitation of structural systems and components and new structures. Detailed job duties include: Perform three-dimensional modeling and dynamic seismic analyses of building structural systems to inform the structural design; Design of specialized structural seismic protective systems experiencing seismic and hydrostatic forces including buckling restrained braces (BRB’s), passive viscous dampers, ductile steel, and reinforced concrete moment frames; Perform evaluations of existing buildings using ASCE 41 to identify seismic vulnerabilities; Develop graphic representation of critical engineering data using computer programs MATLAB, VBA, and Python; Structural integrity assessment of existing structures for specialized occupancies such as healthcare facilities; Analyze engineering data using Tally and EC3 program for sustainable building design; Develop and implement advanced structural finite element analysis tools and design tasks for structural engineering application; Vibration analysis of long span concrete and steel structural support systems to satisfy human or equipment sensitivity criteria and to limit excitation; Seismic and gravity design of large-scale sustainable office facility structures. Calculate the stresses and loads each structural element, such as a beam or wall, will experience from other parts of the structure due to human use or environmental effects such as weather or earthquakes; Prepare reports and presentations to communicate engineering results and data to clients; Coordinate work with information from geotechnical engineers to develop foundation designs for soft soil sites in areas of high seismicity; Provide construction phase support in the form of submittal review and response to Requests for Information from the Contractor. Perform site visits to ensure construction is being completed in accordance with the Construction Documents. Develop tools in MATLAB, VBA, and Python to automate engineering design and analyses. Utilizes advanced Building Information Modeling techniques to model complex buildings and structures. Very occasionally travel to projects under construction. Travel is typically local in the San Francisco Bay Area. On average travel represents less than 1% of an employee’s working time. Local travel is by public transport, ride share services or using a company owned vehicle or rental car. $101,878 - $120,000 pe year. Minimum job requirements: Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or related field and at least one year experience. Must have coursework in structural engineering or seismic engineering. Must be proficient with the following program: Revit, ETABS, SAP 2000, and RISA.
