Position: Medical Technologist (MT)
Salary: $72,238.40 / year, standard benefits included
Location: 410 Benedicta Avenue, Trinidad, CO 81082
Requirements: Bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Medical Technology, Biology, Chemistry, or related. 2 years of experience as a Medical Technologist, or related. Experience must include: Conduct testing for blood chemistry analysis, qualitative/quantitative assays of drugs, identifying normal and abnormal cells in a peripheral blood smear, performing coagulation studies, serological testing procedures for viral and infectious diseases, and analyzing microscopic and macroscopic examinations; Performs procedures in PCR and molecular testing; Performs validation studies, calibrations and quality control on medical equipment and reagents.
Duties: Collects, processes, and handles blood and/or other biological specimens according to established procedures; Performs a variety of clinical laboratory tests in the areas of hematology, microbiology, serology, clinical chemistry, coagulation, blood bank, and urinalysis; Performs phlebotomy of all age ranges; Responsible for maintaining and using various equipment in the laboratory safely and correctly and troubleshooting when necessary; Performs calibrations, quality controls, and correlations; maintains records of these checks; Responsible for documenting workload and other statistics; Responsible for documenting correct information for billing purposes; Receives and log patient specimens: Urine, blood, spinal fluid, stool, and other body fluids; Responsible for centrifuging specimens to separate cells from sediment, serum, or supernatant fluids; Responsible for performing all in-house laboratory tests as needed; Responsible for adding specific reagents to specimens and preparing them for examination per policy and procedure; Follows Standard precautions at all times; Calculates results and documents observations; Notifies nurses, providers, and/or physicians of all critical test values; Records all test results in logbooks, quality control records, and in the computer system; Always verifies that the proper specimen is being analyzed for the proper patient and for the indicated test procedure; Demonstrates knowledge of new testing methods, products and instrumentations; remains informed on all current technology; Performs Blood Bank testing including ABO/Rh, Antibody Screen, Crossmatch, Cord Blood, Rhogam work-up, Direct Coombs/DAT, and prepares FFP; Performs Microbiology testing including identifying organisms in cultures and on gram stains for antimicrobial susceptibility; Demonstrates positive behavior in a team-oriented environment; Interacts professionally with all coworkers, employees, providers/physicians, administration, and the Laboratory Director; Provides excellent customer service to all patients; Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/heath care errors; Always available to offer assistance to other lab employees; Always available to answer questions/inquiries by phlebotomists and MLTs.
