Job Purpose:  Maintain a caseload of individuals, couples, families, and groups; identify and evaluate presenting problems and related symptoms; provide counseling services in VOCA, Parenting, Anger Management, BIPPS and other general mental health counseling services; in consultation with the Director of Family Service, make diagnostic impressions, develop treatment goals and plans, apply appropriate therapy techniques to assist the client to develop and gain greater emotional stability and more appropriate behaviors. Explore and utilize new methods, knowledge, and techniques in order to understand and effectively provide intervention, and to advocate when indicated on behalf of clients.



 



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES




  • Interviews client to obtain information to complete intake, identify problems, evaluate requests and offer appropriate services, immediate and ongoing. Refers clients to other agencies when appropriate.

  • Observes client to detect indications of abnormal or mental behavior.

  • Completes requirements for all contracts and grants and meets all agency standards, operating procedures and policies, including case recording/documentation, service plans, re-evaluations, and termination summaries; inform client of their rights and responsibilities while receiving services.

  • Plans and administers therapeutic treatment such as behavior modification and stress management therapy to assist patient in controlling disorders and other problems.

  • Changes method and degree of therapy when indicated by client reactions.

  • Discusses progress toward goals with client such as controlling weight, stress, or substance abuse.   

  • Uses a variety of evidence-based treatments during clinical therapy sessions.

  • Refers client to supportive services to supplement treatment and counseling.

  • Enters and keeps current all appropriate supporting documentation in client record.

  • Completes reports including monthly reports and other data as outlined in the Program and Clinical Policy & Procedure Manual.

  • Develops evaluative studies of therapy and therapy outcome.

  • Assists other staff as needed and provide consultation when solicited to peers.

Education and/or Experience: Master’s Degree in Behavioral Health, WV Licensed Counselor/Phycologist/Clinical Social Worker/Marriage & Family Therapist or obtained within three months of hire and related experience and/or training.
