Adhere to protocols and procedures regarding aorta/retroperitoneal, scrotal, and penile ultrasound studies
Obtain patient blood pressures
Administer penile injections
Use independent judgement to acquire optimum diagnostic sonographic information in each exam
Dictate study. The ordering physician’s name will be signed to the report not the sonographers
Add appropriate ICD-10 codes to chart and add charges
Set up, assist, and process specimens during transrectal prostate biopsies
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians and support staff to produce a positive team-player attitude
Follow infection control and safety guidelines to ensure proper cleaning and disinfecting of patient rooms to include ultrasound machine and all equipment that you use
Stock ultrasound rooms to ensure proper equipment and supplies are readily available
Frequently move or lift 50-100 lbs. equipment and supplies
Offer to assist Medical Assistants when needed to facilitate a cohesive work environment once your duties are completed
Exude positive work attitude with flexibility to adapt to changes within the practice
Requirements:
BA/BS or AA/AS degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Certificate or Diploma in Diagnostic Medical Sonography. Must be a graduate of an Allied Health program
Must have RDMS certification with a specialty in Abdomen required
3 years (we’d love more!!) experience within General Sonography
CPR certification required
Possess strong working knowledge of abdominal and pelvic anatomy and/or pathology to execute independent critical thinking during each ultrasound exam
Strong working knowledge of ultrasound physics to effectively operate sonographic equipment to obtain optimal image quality
Solid understanding of practices, procedures, and pathologies specifically relating to urology
Able to evaluate, synthesize, and communicate diagnostic information to attending physician and supporting staff
Able to prioritize responsibilities in an efficient manner to facilitate the best patient care and customer service
Able to review patient history and medical records, interpret various imaging modalities and final reports, laboratory results, and integrate pertinent data to facilitate optimum diagnostic results
Experience with EMR systems in an outpatient setting a plus; experience with eClinical Works is a plus
Computer literate
Ability to frequently move or lift 50-100 lbs. equipment and supplies
Able to stand for long periods of time with frequent squatting, twisting, bending, kneeling, and reaching to prepare equipment and supplies to provide appropriate patient care and to maintain the patient environment
The Diagnostic Medical Sonographer must understand and accept the possibility of exposure to inside environmental conditions, such as noise, infectious/communicable diseases, blood and bloodborne diseases, chemicals and/or chemical fumes, odors, gases, and dusts
Strong written & verbal communication skills with clinical staff, administrative staff, and patients and their families
Solid problem-solving skills; you produce practical solutions
