Responsibilities:
- The Speech Writer will collaborate with selected Department of Transportation senior stakeholders to write speeches and other targeted remarks.
- Speeches will be written for delivery by stakeholders for public and outward events such as for trade associations, conferences, executive meetings, and keynotes.
- Speeches will also be written for internal events: townhall events, annual awards ceremony, messages for special observances (e.g., holidays).
- The candidate must be nimble and agile in understanding stakeholder goals and then quickly and effectively create speeches.
- The candidate must learn and embrace the stakeholders’ speech delivery preferences and voice.
- The candidate is not to interject any personal philosophy into resultant communication products.
- The candidate will also work with Public Affairs personnel for the public release of written materials.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (preferred: Journalism, English, Business, Marketing, or a similar field)
- 5 years’ experience in professional writing
- Solid experience as a seasoned speech writer
- Some basic knowledge/understanding of the energy sector and hazardous material safety. (Note that the position is a speech writer and not a Subject Matter Expert in energy or hazmat.)
- High level quality in communication products that are created; typos and grammatical errors are not acceptable.
- Nimbleness and agility to work with stakeholders and identify/capture each stakeholder’s preferences and the messaging of the DoT.
- Experience in meeting with stakeholders and quickly/effectively generating remarks with minimal or no editing required.
- High level competency in use of Microsoft Office products.
- The ability to obtain and maintain a client specific Public Trust or BI
