JOB SUMMARY:

The Arizona Department of Corrections is seeking a Correctional Substance Abuse Counselor Senior, who will be responsible for clinically assessing and treating inmates.
JOB DUTIES:
- Delivers substance abuse education classes, conducts substance abuse therapy groups and one-on-one counseling sessions
- Provides guidance and leadership to Correctional Substance Abuse Counselors at the Associate or Technician levels
- Reviews and approves treatment plans submitted by Associate and Technician level Correctional Substance Abuse Counselors
- Completes intake assessment, DX, discharge summaries, treatment plans, and progress notes
- Provides clinical supervision for associate level counselors who are licensed through the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners.
- Travels on state business
- Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment
- Drives on State business
SPECIAL SELECTION FACTOR(S) – THE FOLLOWING ARE REQUIRED:
Must be licensed by the Arizona Department of Behavioral Health Examiners as an Associate or Independent Clinician.
This position requires possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver's license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver's license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.).

- Counseling, teaching and facilitation techniques

- Personal computers and various software programs (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook)

- Teaching techniques

Ability to:
- Effectively deliver program curriculum in a classroom environment
- Interact professionally with inmates in a group setting and one-on-one situations
- Interact professionally with security staff and the public
- Work in a secured prison environment
- Apply Arizona Department of Corrections (ADC) policy and procedures
- Collect and maintain statistical data
- Work as a team member
- Travel
SELECTIVE PREFERENCE(S) - IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS:
- Prefer Independent level license
PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

RETIREMENT:
Positions in this classification participate in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS).
Enrollment eligibility will become effective after 27 weeks of employment.
Current ADC Employees: Consult with your respective Human Resources Liaison if you are in a different retirement plan than the one indicated above.
