Ideally recovery coaches will have strong interpersonal skills, empathy and compassion, flexible schedule and demonstrated commitment to recovery. In addition: - three years plus of continuous sobriety at time of hire - identify as a person in recovery from addiction and be willing to share details of personal experiences - demonstrate recovery oriented perspectives for patients - model, encourage and support the rewards of sobriety - thorough understanding of and able to identify stressors and triggers impacting living in recovery, especially early recovery - maintain 100% patient confidentiality - provide information about resources in recovery community - serve as mentor: guide, motivate, support and help develop patients with personal recovery goals and plans - act as a sounding board - help build patients' confidence, coping skills and control over their lives in recovery.
