Job Title: Principal Software Engineer (Job Code J141)

Job Description:
Applying advanced expertise and knowledge in highly specialized fields, design and develop software applications or systems. Design and develop open-source project software to set standards for observability and data ingestion across logs, metrics, and traces. Lead design discussions for systems under technical review to ensure scale, security, operability, and usability are considered and documented in the course of system implementation. Serve as technical lead for a significant functional area and the technical roadmap. Participate in code reviews and make code-level changes on systems under technical review. Support the scaling of customer data ingestion into Splunk’s observability cloud product. Monitor infrastructure, respond to alerts and escalations, and avert or resolve outages.

Minimum Requirements:

• EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: BS in Computer Science, Computer Networking, or related field & 5 years of experience in job offered or in a software engineering-related occupation. ALTERNATE EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Networking, or related field & 2 years of experience in job offered or in a software engineering-related occupation. Any suitable combination of education and experience is acceptable.

• Education or experience must include: 1. Python or Go or Java; 2. Terraform or Ansible or Puppet or Salt;
3. Github or Gitlab or Bitbucket; 4. Docker; 5. AWS or CGP; 6. Orchestration engine; 7. Open Source Software; 8. Unix and Linux system libraries, file systems, and client-server protocols.
