Physician Assistant
Place of Performance: Fort Bliss, TX

General Description:
Physician Assistant shall have sufficient experience to be able to perform tasks which may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Specific Tasks:
Conserve health of patients by application of diversified knowledge of preventive, diagnostic, and therapeutic medical procedures.
Provide medical examination, care, and treatment to eligible military healthcare system beneficiaries and other patients on an emergent basis.
Obtain adequate history, physical, assessment and develop plan in a timely and appropriate manner on each patient and develop treatment plan.
Utilize paraprofessional staff as appropriate.
Seek advice of consultants when appropriate.
Provide medical advice over the telephone.
Complete all required paperwork.
Initiate requests for tests, x-rays, and admissions to the medical treatment facility, as appropriate.
Follow-up on abnormal reports. Abnormal x-ray and lab reports received on patients seen by contract physician assistants shall be reviewed by the contract physician assistant at the time these reports are available for review. Each report shall be reviewed within one week of its receipt.
Prescribe medications, as appropriate, in accordance with the privileges and hospital rules and regulations.
Prepare and document appropriate history physical examinations, and diagnosis. Maintain documentation of all treatment provided in accordance with hospital directives and prepare such records and reports as may be required by the policy. Ensure all documentation and report are legible and complete.
Review medical histories and progress of patients. Examine patients, make diagnosis of disease, disaster, or injury, and treat patient or prescribe a course of treatment. Abide by all facility rules, regulations, and policies.
Adhere to the Center for Disease Control guidelines concerning universal precautions and the MTF Infection Control Program at all times while providing services under this contract.
Perform all duties in such a manner that they meet all JCAHO Standards.
Provide only those services for which you holds privileges.
Provide primary or specialty medical care with the cognizance or supervision of a physician.
Responsible for a regularly appointed clinic, compatible with workload and, in addition, provide immediate evaluation and management of emergent problems as they occur.
Perform general physical examination.
Collect and record, in proper format, medical and social historical data appropriate to the patient's condition.
May become the primary care manager for a panel of patients. As a PCM, will be the primary person responsible for the management of the health and wellness of assigned patients.
Examination of patients, formulation of differential diagnostic plans, and defines and orders required diagnostic testing.
Interpretation of examination findings and test results and implementation of treatment plans. Basic reading and interpretation of x-rays.
Determine need for consultation and assists in medical care and treatment provided at the direction of other specialists.
Answer patient telephone consults with the assistance of clinic staff.
Provide primary and secondary preventive maintenance care.
Recognize those more complicated cases, initiate treatment (if appropriate), and refer to a higher level of medical expertise for diagnosis and/or treatment.
Plan and initiate proper treatment within defined privileges and the scope of practice of the facility.
Identify and report those situations and individual cases which have public health significance and carry out effective control measures.
Clearly communicate to other health personnel, either orally or in writing, the findings, diagnosis, and planned treatment regimen.
Stabilize and manage patients in a medical or surgical emergency and/or transfer to physician care.
Determine appropriate means of evacuation of emergency patients, prepare patients for evacuation, and arrange for evacuation support.
Perform the following blocks: Digital, Local Infiltration.
Maintain inpatient and outpatient medical records in accordance with MTF procedures.
Perform deployment health assessment services that comply with Department of Defense and Army deployment health policy and guidance, to include required standards of care and clinical practice guidelines.
Complete all documentation of care provided in the MTF computer programs for which training was/is provided.

Education:
Graduate of a Physician Assistant educational program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission for the Physician Assistant or previously recognized accrediting body.
Shall be required to meet Continuing Medical Education (CME).

Certification:
Maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
Shall have and maintain a current certification as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). Must continuously maintain NCCPA certification and be Board Certified by the NCCPA.
Shall have and maintain a current, valid, unrestricted DEA certificate.
Shall possess a Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs (BNDD) number.

Experience:
Shall have a minimum of two years' experience within the last two years and one year of specialized experience working as an Emergency Room Physician Assistant or Primary Care Physician Assistant.

License:
Possess and maintain a current unrestricted license to practice as a PA in any of the 50 United States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Islands.
