We are seeking a full-time mental health therapist to join our team in-person, remote, or hybrid. (Full-time = 20+ face-to-face clinical hours per week; Mental health therapist = LMSW, LCSW, LPCC, LMFT, LMHC, PhD, PsyD.)
We welcome both independently licensed providers and pre-licensure supervisees of all credentialing types, and we can work with you to determine if direct employment or contract work is the best fit for you. We provide free clinical supervision to post-graduate, pre-licensure therapists. (New Mexico licensure or pursuit of New Mexico licensure is required.)
Who we are: Desert Wise is a private, group practice in Albuquerque, New Mexico that provides culturally competent care to and advocacy for military members, veterans, and those who love them. We also regularly treat first responders, aviators, medical professionals, and other individuals in high stakes occupations.
Desert Wise most frequently treats PTSD and trauma-related sequela (e.g., C-PTSD, depression, insomnia, anger, relationship distress, TBI), so our clinic and operations are designed to optimize the functioning of our patients living with PTSD.
Alongside excellence in patient care, Desert Wise emphasizes a safe, humane work culture for clinicians, and a candidates equanimity and ability to integrate healthily into this environment is essential.
Ideal candidates for our patient population have a primary interest in treating trauma and are passionate about serving military-connected patients. Military experience is not required, but successful candidates take a learning posture to acquire military cultural competency. Therapists who are equally thick-skinned, compassionate, and humorous will find their niche working with our population, and optimal candidates exhibit high professionalism and decorum most suitable for our population.
Ideal candidates for our team are self-regulated, interpersonally healthy, demonstrate exceptional emotional intelligence, conscientious, cooperative, psychologically flexible, and have impeccable integrity. Our team is a sanctuary for learning, stumbling, and developing, and we hold ourselves to high standards of introspection, self-awareness, and accountability. Therefore, we are seeking candidates that are a good fit with and will be good stewards of this dynamic.
Approach to treatment: Desert Wise treatment is informed by a psychodynamic perspective, but psychodynamic orientation is not required. We also get excited about the following approaches: humanistic, person-centered, family systems, gestalt, attachment theory, analytic, Gottman method, and other approaches of depth and insight. More broadly, we value skilled, clinically informed integrative approaches that flex based on the needs, preferences, and cultural context(s) of the patient sitting in front of us.
