THE POSITION

Development Engineer, Hoosier Racing Tire Corp., Plymouth, IN:

Develop new tire specifications based on input from Product Management, Compounding, Processing, Quality, and Customer. Design, develop, and maintain new or existing tire lines and platforms, ensuring an optimal balance of quality, complexity, and material cost, while accounting for manufacturing feasibility. Collaborate with local and central Compound and Material Engineers to implement the most advanced and suitable materials in product designs. Prepare and coordinate indoor and outdoor test setups to evaluate tire constructions, materials, and compounds under various conditions. Perform in-depth evaluations of competitor products by analyzing construction, materials, and performance to support internal product development activities and product planning. Ensure product quality through compliance with internal technical standards and the application of risk assessment tools such as D-FMEA. Lead the development of new tire lines in accordance with internal project management standards (PROMT), ensuring full compliance.

Telecommuting permitted up to 8 days per month.

Full time employment, Monday – Friday, 40 hours per week.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related STEM field and 2 years of related work experience in product development.

Of the required experience, must have 2 years of experience in each of the following:

• Hands-on tire development (product or platform) for Original Equipment (OE) or replacement markets.
• Applying Design-FMEA risk assessment tool in product development projects.
• Tire manufacturing processes (from raw material preparation to final finishing operations), and key production processes (including mixing, calendaring, extrusion, and vulcanization) with knowledge of their influencing parameters.
• Regulatory compliance standards for tire safety and performance such as DOT, ECE and ISO.
Must have 2 years of experience in each of the following:
• Analyzing tire performance under different service conditions, with an understanding of vehicle, driver, and environmental interactions.
• Project management, including planning, coordinating cross-functional teams, and tracking development milestones, timelines, and costs.

Telecommuting permitted up to 8 days per month.

Domestic travel required up to 20%.
