Job Title: Accounting Assistant

Location: Charlestown, MA, 02129

Duration: 6+ months

Shift Time: Mon/Tues/Thurs 8:00-4:00

Responsibilities:
  • Deposit all checks for school district monthly contributions, service purchases, and transfers to the MTRS.
  • Process transfers and rollovers from financial institutions which are used to purchase creditable service
  • Set up annual installment billing for qualified members' service purchases
  • Process checks received for service purchases, by routing copies of payment receipts to members, Records Administration, and Finance Unit.
  • Process checks received for transfer of retirement in accordance with established procedures.
  • Apply deposits received to the school district or member retirement account(s).
  • Prepare letters to members as needed.
  • Respond to calls and emails to provide information on the status of service purchases.
  • Preparing deposits.
  • Managing a high volume of time-sensitive requests and payments.
  • Spreadsheets and Word Documents.
Qualifications:
  • Work with Finance Representatives to clear backlogs and help keep up with daily tasks.
  • Extremely accurate and able to multi-task.
  • The high volume of calls, emails
  • Reliable
  • Proficient in Excel, word, scanning
  • Experience in the banking industry or financial institutions would be great.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and Outlook with a strong emphasis on the use of Excel
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with the public: writing skills; the ability to communicate information concisely and effectively in writing, in person or via telephone.
  • Ability to deal with a high volume of time-sensitive deposits and service purchase invoices
  • Excellent math and organizational skills
  • Ability to follow instructions and function independently within prescribed deadlines
  • Ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Accurate data entry and attention to detail.
