The Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine (ICOM) is seeking an Assistant Dean of Research. The Assistant Dean of Research is a non-tenured, faculty member responsible for the supervision of research, pre-doctoral didactic and clinical educational programs. The successful candidate will carry out ICOM's mission through leading and supervising the research efforts of the college. This position participates and assists the Dean and colleagues in the planning, directing and implementation of college programs, policies and procedures, and assists in the development and teaching of curriculum which integrates the different specialty areas in a team-based, large and small group learning environments.

Typical responsibilities include:

  • Develop research strategy and infrastructure and lead research compliance.
  • Provide logistical support for all research activities, including the coordination of student research opportunities.
  • Advise and mentor faculty and students on research projects.
  • Create and maintain relationships with scientific groups and universities to allow for collaboration in research.
  • Teach osteopathic medical students didactic course material for years 1-4 of their education (with focus on system-based courses of years 1 and 2).
  • Course director for scholarly activity rotations.
  • Serve the academic mission of the college and using academic professional expertise to serve your profession and the community.
  • Develop and direct programs, policies and procedures to build and expand opportunities for research and scholarly activity for faculty and students.
  • Develop budgets that advance the strategic mission for research and supervise the expenditures of funds used for research.
  • Develop policies to ensure compliance in human subjects and laboratory-based research.
  • Participate in the development of the departmental budget.
  • Maintaining professional literacy in the academic field.

Requirements

  • Doctorate degree in relevant field
  • 5+ years of experience in research and/or teaching
  • Demonstrated record of research publications
  • A substantial record of success as an educator with experience in teaching foundational concepts relevant to medical education
  • Significant experience in a leadership or management role
  • Knowledge of medical research ethics and regulations
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Grant writing experience and record of successful grant applications would be an advantage
  • Demonstrated high-level of competency with budgets, business development, and strategic planning
  • Ability to manage projects and people and prioritize and self-direct work flow
