Advising, educating, supervising, and training medical students, residents, and fellows. This includes education of trainees (medical students, residents, fellows) through teaching rounds, precepting in clinic, formal lectures, and informal tutorials on a daily basis.
Conducting independent research and establish a clinical research program linked to clinical efforts and focused on hematology/ or hematologic malignancies. This includes performing or supervising lab experiments, attending and presenting at research group meetings, analyzing research data, writing manuscripts for publication and grant writing on a daily basis.
Attending regular weekly or monthly meetings with section, clinical faculty, affiliated departments, and interdisciplinary meetings as required.
Establishing a clinical practice at Boston Medical Center. Clinical duties include conducting physical examinations and analyzing patients medical history, analyzing patient historical data and using data to make informed decisions by reviewing lab tests, CAT scans and MRIs for a more accurate diagnosis. Analyzing laboratory results and identifying abnormalities; prescribing medication or dietary advice; diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as bone marrow biopsies, lumbar punctures, and stem cell transplants; administering chemotherapy for the treatment plan.
Responsible for 3 four-hour clinic sessions per week, 3 to 5 two-week inpatient service blocks, 2 to 3 weekends and/or 1 holiday of employment during the first year.
Responsible for the coordination of care and treatment of patients referred to Boston Medical Center. This includes the clinical duties outlined above as well as discussing diagnosis and plan of care with patients, facilitating family meetings, interacting with external care facilities for smooth transition of patients to and from Boston Medical Center, medical and pharmacy paperwork, regular communication with primary care providers, and responding to patient and provider concerns via verbal and electronic means on a daily basis.
Responsible for reaching the wRVU target established by the section chief.
Maintain required credentialing status at Boston Medical Center.
Requirements:
MD degree, medical license or eligibility for medical license in Massachusetts. Must have Board Certification in Hematology.
