Essential Job Functions:
1. Provides direct services through the Guidance Curriculum, Individual Student Planning and Preventive and Responsive Services
2. Provides program management, system support and accountability
3. Establishes the school counseling program and develops activities and resources to implement and evaluate the program
4. Involves other school staff in making decisions about the school counseling program
5. Provides individual and group counseling services to meet the developmental, preventive and remedial needs of students
6. Consults with students, parents, teachers and other school and community personnel to assist in meeting the needs of students
7. Coordinates all counseling services for students and assists with the coordination and implementation of student services in the school
8. Assists teachers with the Guidance Curriculum
9. Accurately interprets test results and other student data
10. Assists teachers with the educational placement of students by using appropriate educational assessment strategies
11. Adheres to ethical standards of the counseling profession and abides by the laws, policies and procedures that govern schools
12. Participates in professional associations and upgrades professional knowledge of skills when needed
Must be able to:
- prepare, read and comprehend a variety of job related forms, reports, spreadsheets, maps, plans, records, documentation and correspondence in all languages required by the job
- respond adequately to inquiries or complaints
- apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
- apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagrammatic form
- use/interpret job related terminology, mathematical formulas and functions effectively and efficiently
- deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions
- perform under stress, deal with persons acting under stress and adapt when confronted with emergency situations
- be sensitive to cultural differences among individuals and groups of persons
